St. George
Jacobite Syrian Orthodox church is situated in
Ballabgarh, Dist. Faridabad, Haryana – State about 4 km
East of Faridabad Near Sector -2, Ballabgarh.
Established in 1996.The Syrian Orthodox Church in India
is one of themost ancient Christian Churches in the
world, which has its origin in Jerusalem. The followers
of the Christ were first called as Christians in Antioch
and Malankara Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church is a part
of Antiochian Church which has a universal
presence.
Brief History
St. George Jacobite Syrian
Orthodox Church in Faridabad is one of the oldest
churches in NCR, which is a part of Malankara Syrian
Orthodox Association. The Jacobite Syrian community in
Faridabad had started functioning more or less at the
same time as that of St. Peter's Cathedral Church in
Delhi. Initially this congregation was started as a
Prayer Group with a handful of believers. In the year
1981, with the spiritual blessings of the Diocesan
Metropolitan the late H.G. Thomas Mar Theophilos, St.
George Syrian Jacobite Church Faridabad was formally
came into existence. In the early days of its
functioning the church had to assemble in cottages or in
school premises to celebrate Holy Qurbana etc. This
practice continued till the church have its own building
in 1996. Till today, nearly about twelve Rev. Fathers
had been pastured this flock. It is a matter of proud of
this Church to say that some of the priests who served
this church have been elevated to Metropolitans. The
spiritual organs of the church are active and
participating in various programmes/functions being
conducted at zonal level.
